Frequently Asked Questions
Is social media relevant for my business?
No question about it. According to a recent LinkedIn study, roughly 81% of small businesses are using social media. Social media gives you a platform to reach the world. It provides you with opportunities to cross international borders, market your brand to the world, and engage in dialogue with customers, employees, shareholders, journalists, other businesses, and audiences you haven’t even thought of.
What do I say?
There’s no golden formula. The general rule is to give. Give your audience information about your company, about your brand, industry information that is directly relevant to their lives. Entertain them, ask them questions, generate buzz about new products, or current events and/or legislation relevant to your brand. You also need to talk back. If your audience reaches out to you, it’s important to respond in a timely manner. Two-way communication is how relationships are built and your brand gets shared.
All of this can be daunting, and that’s why there are professionals (like us!) to help you navigate the waters and break the ice.
How often do I use it?
Any time. However, you don’t want to blow up your followers’ newsfeed with overkill – don’t just say something to say something. On the other hand, you don’t want to fade into the background by not saying enough. This is where strategy, forethought and planning come to play. An easy fix (this is a relative term – social media takes WORK) is to create a 30-day editorial calendar (and stick with it!) for the skeleton and fill in the meat as it comes. We can help with this too.
How do I know if it’s working?
In the business world, social media success is gauged by a blend of interaction and connections. While you definitely benefit from a wide social reach, your networking means nothing unless you’re encouraging dialogue and interacting with influencers in your targeted space.
Using the extensive DTN network as a base, we work to branch out and increase your sphere of influence in areas that is ultimately going to positively impact your business.
Which platforms/networks do I need?
Well, the answer is yes. And no. You can join any social media platform and cause a few ripples, but you want to focus on the ones that are going to make waves. You want a relevant audience and you want to hit the stage of that audience like a freight train. If you spread yourself too thin you come onto the scene on a Vespa. It takes considerable time and effort to get it right, and DTN has the know-how, tools and the energy to do the research and get you ready for the show.
Can social media replace other marketing campaigns?
Nope. Social media should be complementary to and integrated with your existing marketing strategies. Traditional marketing such as email, direct mail, promotions, etc. still have a powerful place, but by enhancing those efforts with social media you’re getting quite the bang for your buck.
Remember that selfie you took at the tradeshow? Don’t hesitate to fire it out across your networks. It screams, “Look at me! Selfie after a stellar Company presentation at XYZ Tradeshow. We did some serious networking, added value to the brand and want you to know about it.”
It’s fun, quick and shows that there are real people working behind the scenes.
